LONDON PHILHARMONIC CD
MENDELSSOHN
Felix Mendelssohn German Composer (1809-1847)
Mendelssohn showed his strong musical talent at an early age. He began composing at 11 and wrote his first masterpiece by 16. Mendelssohn's styling was based on Classical models but was also influenced by Romanticism, which lifted his work above the traditional. After holding the position of music director of Dusseldorf, Mendelssohn accepted a similar calling in Leipzig. Here he used his talent to bring the Gewandhaus Orchestra to such heights that Leipzig became the muscial capital of Germany.
