HANDEL
George Frideric Handel, German-born British Composer. (1685-1759)
Handel was a gifted musician educated in the organ, violin and composition. After producing his first opera at age 20, he moved to Florence and continued to write operas, along with oratories and cantatas. His name came to fame in London by way of his opera Rinaldo. This fame helped Handel become the director of the Royal Academy of Music until a shift in musical trends. Handel's greatest accomplishment was the first public oratoria performance in England, eventually making oratorio the most popular music from across England.
